Ofelia Agustina Hernández López de Sanchez

Ofelia (she/her) is a respected Maya Mam elder midwife from Concepción Chiquirichapa, Quetzaltenango who has been part of the organization for approximately 20 years. Through her long-standing participation, she has helped preserve and transmit ancestral Maya midwifery knowledge while supporting generations of women, families, and younger midwives within the community. Her grandbabies now come to be born at Naye Xjaw. 

Maritza (she/her) is a Maya Mam midwife from San Juan Ostuncalco, Quetzaltenango, with more than seven years of experience combining ancestral Maya knowledge, traditional healing, and biomedical midwifery practices. Her vocation is rooted in teachings passed down by her grandmothers and in her lifelong calling to accompany and care for women. She specializes in medicinal plants, natural remedies, traditional massage, and care during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period. Certified in obstetric ultrasound by Maya Midwifery International, Maritza uses this technology as a complementary tool to strengthen prenatal care in her communities. Her work reflects a deep commitment to continuous learning, the preservation of Maya medicine, the dignity of midwives, and culturally appropriate, community-based maternity care.

Felipa Vinicia Hernández Cabrera de Pérez

Santos López Romero de Romero

Felipa (she/her) is a Maya Mam midwife with twelve years of experience from San Juan Ostuncalco, Quetzaltenango. She provides culturally grounded care to women and families in her community and is currently learning to perform obstetric ultrasound through training with Maya Midwifery International, strengthening her ability to support prenatal care alongside traditional midwifery knowledge.

Santos (she/her) is a respected Maya Mam elder midwife from San Juan Ostuncalco, Quetzaltenango who has been part of the association for approximately 20 years. Her continued service reflects a deep commitment to Maya midwifery, community-based care, and the preservation of ancestral knowledge for future generations.

Devora Micaela Vásquez López

Evelyn Magali Izara Garcia

Evelyn (she/her) is a Maya Mam midwife from San Juan Ostuncalco, Quetzaltenango. She began her midwifery training at the age of 15, becoming the youngest woman to train with Maya Midwifery International. Now 19, she is a trained midwife committed to supporting women and families through respectful, culturally grounded care. Her practice is closely connected to the Maya cosmovision and the role of Maya ceremony in healing, pregnancy, birth, and community life. Evelyn is also certified in obstetric ultrasound by Maya Midwifery International, allowing her to use this technology as a complementary tool to strengthen prenatal care while honoring ancestral Maya knowledge and traditions.

Devora (she/her) is a Maya Mam midwife from San Juan Ostuncalco, Quetzaltenango, with seven years of experience accompanying women throughout pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period. She is skilled in traditional massage and bodywork and is currently developing her ability to perform obstetric ultrasound through training provided by Maya Midwifery International.
